I recommend AVG Anti-virus from Grisoft. Not only can you get a free version for those of you who don't want to spend money on virus protection, the program itself is good, simple to use, and worth paying for the extra features.
It does email scanning, memory (live virus protection), and file scanning automatically. Updates to the virus file definitions are released often and downloaded via the web - you can update behind your corporate firewall.
I recently downloaded this and installed it. I have to say this is the best Virus scanner for the money. The scanner I was using missed detecting 8 copies of a Trojan on my computer. This scanner detected them and allowed me to remove them easily. ( The Scanner I was using was not free)
